Review of Everything Is Illuminated (2005) by Alexander B — 12 Jul 2009
There's a gentle dream like quality throughout the film. Nice performances from everyone; I had a difficult time with Elijah Wood; he just seems to try so damn hard (it's something I've noticed in other films) ...
Also it's not always easy to keep track of what, or should I say who they are talking about. References to past relatives and how they are linked to people still alive gets a little confusing. Lastly I was intrigued by the decision to remove all humor from the second half of the film; It was doing so well ... too bad. Despite these small gripes I enjoyed the film and liked how the title is explained towards the end of the story. Nicely done.
