Review of Everything Is Illuminated (2005) by Pieter-Jan H — 07 Aug 2009
Again, picking up brain time. I should stop watching great movies so I can get myself together again. This odd little movie that approaches the horrors of WWII, emotional scares and a harsh reality carries the most beautiful, black and twisted humour imaginable.
It's deadpan and in your face, it's cultural differences, it's mispronounced english, it's crazy dogs and dropped potatoes. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's a kind of comic tradgedy that had me laughing while wiping away tears.
Update! Rewatched, fell in love all over again. Mesmerazing!
