Review of Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) by Dukejon — 03 Jul 2022
Top marks for originality, and also great performances from everyone involved. However I have to say I felt exhausted after watching this confusing, overlong, mess of a movie. The multiverse concept is already a well-worn trope, and ultimately the basic message of the film is quite simplistic.
Too many effects, too much cgi and too many comedy kung-fu fights made me feel as though the director was making it up as he went along and throwing everything possible at the screen in case some of it stuck.
I hear they originally wrote the main part for Jackie Chan, and it's a shame as he would have been ideal for this - though Michelle Yeoh was a good stand in. Overall I can't say I enjoyed this movie and felt it wasn't nearly as clever as it thought it was.
