Michelle Yeoh stars as a Chinese immigrant who owns a laudromat. Things suddenly become extremely weird when she and her hubby (Kw Huy Quan in a charming turn) go to the IRS (featuring Jamie Lee Curtis as a frumpy auditor).

She ends up as various incarnations of herself in multiverses fighting to save the universe from destruction. Even though this description sounds like it may be a Marvel-based superhero adventure, it's not.

It's a zany trip thru several realities with confusing connections. These sci-fi sections are crazy fun and the frenzied martial arts moments propel the film. However, there's a lot of metaphysical mumbo jumbo that slows the momentum.

There are also attempts at emotional family connections that don't resonate. This is the 2nd feature from Daniels, the directing duo whose 1st film was Swiss Army Man. An excerpt from that review applies to this film as well, "A highly-original and rollickingly-weird premise that gets bogged down with too much message.
