Review of Everything, Everything (2017) by Charlie E — 09 Jun 2017
Superb movie with only some minor plot problems.
1. Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) is uniformly fatal in early childhood without a marrow transplant. I don't recall any mention of the girl having had a marrow or stem cell transplant in the past. Of course, if he did have the stem or marrow transplant then she would have been cured of her SCID diagnosis in which case there would be no dramatic plot for the movie.
2. The girl managed to get onto an american commercial airliner without a driver's license or passport. Quite a feat since today the TSA won't even let your pet goldfish board a plane without the appropriate government-issued documents. To get a driver's license you have to.......drive...to a virus and bacteria infested DMV (Registry in Massachussetts) which presumably the girl has never done since she has been locked in this house her whole life. To get a passport you have to go to a post office (again chock full of equally evil infectious organisms) and swear allegience to the US.
3. The girl and the boy have sex...and shortly afterwards the girl has a seizure. Either this was wild rockem' sockem' sex (which I am sure that the boy would attest to) or else, as is implied in the movie the seizure is related to the girl's SCID diagnosis..............which is unusual since, as we soon discover is a condition that the girl never had.
Once again, despite my overly critical and medically overwhelmed mind, I DO give this movie a 5 star rating with a tomato!!!
