A girl lives the 18 years of her life inside a sterile home with her mother doctor because she has SCID. She runs away to Hawaii with the boy next door and discovers she's not as sick as she thought.

What I liked.

- Very sweet and wholesome movie.

- That sweet Nurse Ratched reference.

- Amandla Stenberg is captivating to watch.

Nitpicks.

- They have no chemistry.

- He's not on her level.

- Nick Robinson and Olly.

Final Thoughts.

She's black and wears white; he's white and wears black.

Her environment is white, bright, big, and safe. His is small, dark, noisy, and violent.

We get to see her space. We don't get to see his.

We get to spend time with her. We don't spend time with him.

They're opposites and opposite attract, so they say.

My only real complaint is the casting of Olly. No offense to Nick Robinson but they don't have the on screen chemistry.

As far as the character Olly, he's not in her league at all. Maddy is much smarter than him and more sophisticated. Maddy has grown while Olly stays exactly the same. Maddy changes her clothing style and colors, and Olly changes nothing. He began and ended wearing black. He is uncompromising while Maddy is looking for change.

There's nothing special about Olly other than he happened to live next door. I think this is the only weakness for the film.

Teen girls will love it.
