Linklater's latest is a jovial and lively tribute to youth and living-in-the-moment, and he's practically the only American filmmaker that could make a movie with this loose a plot structure work.

Everybody Wants Some does have its arc, but it's far more interested in just depicting its era and generation in a way that feels as fun as it is authentic. Casting mostly unknowns, the young cast of actors all deliver great performances, and even if the film is set in the 80s, their personalities feel timeless.

Don't go in expecting it to be an artistic feat on par with Boyhood and The Before Trilogy (it's not nearly as dense, and it also runs too long), but if you're favorite Linklater film is Dazed and Confused then this will be a godsend for you.
