Action-packed, funny and with dazzling visual effects, Star Trek Beyond is a typical straightforward summertime entertainment which will please both "trekkies" and ordinary movie-goers. More light-hearted than its predecessor (Star Trek Into Darkness), the third instalment of the re-booted franchise is a welcome return to the classic story-telling and content for Captain Kirk and the USS Enterprise starship.

After years of exploring the universe, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and Zachary Quinto (Spock) show first signs of burn-out and willingness to potentially change their careers. When they receive the assignment for one more mission, beyond the known borders of the universe, they face an enemy who seems to know them much better than they have every thought. Challenged not only with their own survival and the one of the crew, but also with the surviving of the Federation, Captain Kirk and Spock need to find a way to stop an alien warrior race led by the mysterious Krall (Idris Elba).

As already mentioned, Star Trek Beyond is a most welcome return to the roots of the franchise. Fast-paced, action-packed and with a good dose of humour, Justin Lin's delivery is a formidable summertime blockbuster. Several plot holes (and logic inconsistencies), could be easily forgiven thanks to the emotional load with which this third instalment is packed. The relationships between the crew receive much bigger attention than normally and this certainly has a positive effect on the audience being involved in the overall old-school space journey.

In conclusion, Star Trek Beyond is a smooth summer blockbuster ride which will please even the non-trekkies. By offering something to everybody, the movie is clearly one of the better summer 2016 proposal and it is certain worth being seen. It also proves that the franchise is pretty much alive and that the decision to re-boot it with Chris Pine 7 years ago was an extremely successful decision. A must see delivery!
