Review of Every Day (2010) by Dana A — 13 Jan 2011
Saw this last year at the Tribeca Film Festival. This was pretty funny but be warned the trailer makes this film out to be funnier then what it really is. It basically makes fun of shows like Nip/Tuck and the outrageous moments of TV writing.
But underneath the ridiculousness is a heartwarming somewhat funny depiction of family. Ezra Miller is one of the few standouts in this film as the sexually confused son, who like all children are able to see the craziness of his family.
Liev Schriber is possibly having a breakdown and Helen Hunt manages to hold this movie together much like her character attempts to hold her family together. Rounding out the cast is Brian Dennehy as the grumpy ill grandfather whose coming to realization that he can no longer live an independent life.
Much hilarity and sprinkles of sincerity ensues. While this film tries to be touching at times, all the time its hard to take any of the characters or their plights seriously, since it constantly makes fun of itself.
The film is okay, not something I would recommend. I've seen better and these actors have done better. Simply this film tries to hard to be something its not.
