Review of Everly (2015) by Ryan J — 25 Jan 2015
Want to see Salma Hayek go bat shit crazy on a shitload of Yakuza gangsters? Well this is the film for you.
She plays Everly, a prostitute but the "it" girl of the big Yakuza boss, who, on Christmas Eve is gang raped by a pack of Yakuza for turning evidence on him, she fights back and so begins her night of survival against other prostitutes trying to kill her for the reward money and assorted Yakuza assassins. It is so highly unbelievable that she has the skills to do what she does but, it is highly entertaining. Joe Lynch has a career in horror direction and throughout this action film you can see it, nothing like a horror director trying his hand at the action genre, the deaths throughout are brutal, sometimes hilarious. The film is very well shot, he has taken care with his lighting and camera work, it's a very nice film to watch. Salma Hayek shines in this, showing a side she hasn't shown since, probably, Desperado I thoroughly enjoyed this out of control film and I would recommend it to you all.
