Review of Everlasting Moments (2008) by Ching T — 29 Jun 2009
I really enjoyed this movie and could see why it was nominated for a Golden Globe. While I empathized with the main character for the spousal abuse (physical, mental and verbal) she endured along with his constant philandering, the extreme poverty she lived in, and her frustration at constantly being impregnated by said louse of a husband, I couldn't really feel sympathy for her character as played by this actress (or perhaps as written in the script).
I think this was mainly due to the fact that the story was narrated from the character's eldest daughter thereby handicapping the audience to more of a voyeuristic rather than visceral experience.
It was endearing to see the main character blossom into her own person and esteem as she learned to photograph with her prized family camera heirloom which leads to an almost non platonic friendship with a local merchant.
