Review of Everest (2015) by Landon M — 27 Nov 2015
If I told you this was Jason Clarke's best performance of the year, would that excite you? Terminator Genisys wasn't the best thing to happen to him, but luckily he had this to fall back on. Everest is a very enjoyable movie about a bunch of climbers climbing Mount Everest.
It is very cinematic, and the cinematography is amazing. The acting is all great, with Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, and Jake Gyllenhaal being the standouts. Sam Worthington also impressed me. Gyllenhaal, however, is very underutilized, but is still great in the scenes he's in.
The movie moves at a very fast pace, which surprised me. The first half is the climb up, the second half is the struggle down. This is also where the movie struggles, as it starts losing focus. The movie tugs at your heartstrings in many scenes, and leaves you wondering who is going to survive.
The ending is a bit quick, but it does justice to the story it's telling. Overall, Everest is a really good movie, despite some focus issues. See it in a theater. 8.25/10.
