Review of Everest (2015) by Mali S — 29 Sep 2015
Amazing visuals of Mt Everest and some solid acting. I kind of wish that the movie came with subtitles because it was hard to understand the actors at times with the wind howling and other noisy distractions in the movie. Jason Clarke did a fantastic job as Rob Hall. Jake G was underused but I didnt mind. I'm glad that the other actors got to shine.
I read Krakauer's book Into Thin Air a year ago and watched a documentary on the 1996 expedition but I was still tense throughout most of the movie, worried about the characters. It is an intense movie, especially because it is based on a true story.
My only complaint is that the first 30-45 min were a bit too slow. The main purpose of those minutes were for exposition and, honestly, I wish it got cut down to 15-20 min instead.
I saw it on IMAX 3D and that is probably the best way to see the movie. It was stunningly visual.
