Review of EverAfter (1998) by Chuck S — 24 Jul 2011
A good retelling of the classic Cinderella story. I enjoyed the twist they put on the story and how it starts off with the Brothers Grimm being educated on the true tale. With all the twist and inclusion of new characters (such as Leonardo Da Vinci), I felt it still could have been better.
Set in France, it seems as though everyone had a different accent. It is the lack of detail on some of the finer points like this, that distract from the movie and where I feel it could have been a better movie.
All the basic component to the tale are there, evil step mother (Angelica Huston as the evil step-mother is excellent and worth watching just for her performance), step sisters, handsome prince, glass slipper, etc.
No Disney fairy godmother or carriage turning into pumpkins. Yes, they do live happily ever after.
