Review of Event Horizon (1997) by Jacob P — 02 Apr 2018
The delivery of its narrative is not without its flaws, but its superb presentation on almost every other front easily makes this a timeless sci-fi horror gem. It's premise is unique, presenting a story that shows that other, scarier things can occur in a film set in space other than the typical monsters and aliens.
Speaking of settings, this film's production design for the spaceship is not only original but aesthetically delivers a dark, foreboding atmosphere. On top of that, the cast is superb with Sam Neill delivering one of the scariest performances in a horror film ever.
The only flaw goes back to its story as it has hard time rushing the natural progression of its story sequence by sequence. This is of course is due to the constant meddling of the studios who didn't even take care of the outtake footage for a potential director's cut.
Regardless, this cult classic is absolutely worth seeing and it's to this day one of the most satisfyingly scary films I've ever seen.
