Review of Even Dwarfs Started Small (1971) by Michael S — 25 Jul 2008
Yup, it is 'disturbing'. I grooved on the anarchy until they killed the pig who was nursing her young in the barnyard. I guess, because I am an American and I have an affinity for packaged happy endings, I wanted them to use the vehicle they hot-wired to get the hell out of there.
Instead, they backed it off a cliff. In the end, I wanted to kill the dwarves, especially after having listened to their cackling. This all said, the film is beautiful to look at. There isn't a sympathetic character to be found.
It's a tribute to hopelessness and the marginalization of the marginalized.
