Review of Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (1994) by John B — 27 Jan 2010
I am fucking in love with this movie. It is my movie soul mate (sorry, Velvet Goldmine, you're still my OTHER movie soul mate).
From the moment I innocently found the imbd page while sifting through Keanu Reeves acting roles, I knew I had found something... indescribable. Now, I will watch just about anything for Keanu Reeves alone. The man just has a certain charm to him, what can I say? But as I read further, I found parts of myself tingling that oughtn't tingle when balancing a 10-pound laptop on them.
Directed by Gus Van Sant (who brought us the amazing My Own Private Idaho, Milk, Paris Je T'Aime, to name a few)... Starring Uma Thurman (who has a knack for playing girls who don't just sit around and look pretty)... Music by K.D. Lang... Also starring a Phoenix sibling (love those Phoenixes)... Based on a Tom Robbins novel... And to top it all off it's about cowgirls and free souls on the road ?!! Jesus. If you expect my panties to be dry after such a lethal combination you are kidding yourself.
Thank you, to everyone who made this movie. Just... Thanks.
