Review of Eve and the Fire Horse (2005) by Lisa K — 06 Aug 2008
This was a beautiful film, but it was moreso a journey. One in which each step you take leaves you breathless - not out of exhaustion but out of pure and total awe. It is a journey into the depths of the human mind where strange figures we call gods or religion dance like the shadows of of a flame on the wall. Is any one figure different than any other? Aren't all the shadows a part of the same fire that burns in our hearts and keeps us warm? But still the journey continues - religion is not the only spark that comes from the flame of belief. There is also imagination and spirituality and as one travels further and further down, watching more and more of the film, she may see just how thin the barrier is between these different aspects. They all coincide in one way or another and though this journey is meaningful and profound in every way - it is also beautiful. So enjoy the lights and sounds - the colors, the ideas, the people and their lives therein. This film - this journey - is something to be forever appreciated. Once you reach the end, as the credits roll - as you stand tall at your destination - there is no room for regret, but only a sense of accomplishment without the slightest hint of exasperation. The journey, though beautiful, was also not the slightest bit difficult. The film was an open door all along, but it is your choice whether or not to embark on the exploration and discovery of a lifetime.
I can only hope to make films as beautifully created and deeply moving as this someday.
