Review of EuroTrip (2004) by Zachary E — 20 Jun 2010
For some reason, many didn't like this one, however, it is a daimond in the rough in terms of teen comedy. It focuses on Scotty, a newly graduated teen freshly dumped on the big graduation day, all caught on tape, and his trip to Europe to meet and woo his pen pale Mike, who in fact is a gorgeous German girl named Mieke. Scotty, along with his dim-witted, sex-deprived friend Cooper, and two other friends travel through Europe and find sex, drugs, and locals that are over the top yet stay within steriotypical realism. Granted, its often juvenille, but isnt that the point of these types of films? An easy-to-watch, forget-your-life-for-an-hour comedies? Eurotrip is obviously aimed at young men (and from my experience, bisexual woman) and doesn't forget that.
Eurotrip has many out of the blue cameos, that are funny and blend into the story great. The cast is reletively unknown but very likeable, it shows that they too enjoyed the story. Even years after watching I still pop it in and am tickled by the fact that they got such high-end cameos. I won't list them for those who havn't yet seen it, but there easy to spot and these guests alone warrent at least a single viewing.
The short gags are usually funny, along with the story-long gags, which are funny throughout. This is not a film for minors however, which should be obvious by know, due to the high dose of sex, nudity, and substance abuse in the film.
The best part of this film may just be the title song, performed by Lustra, that became a minor pop-culture sensation with great lyrics and a pretty good sound overall. If you really listen, it may be one of your favorite songs for a while and you will soon find yourself singing it out loud randomely, or put it on your iPod.
Overall, this movie is a fun getaway into your imature, and perverted side that can stand its ground with any other dirty comedy of this generation and may even steal its way into your permanent classics collection.
