Review of Europa Report (2013) by Jay S — 14 Sep 2015
So of the space movies I've recently watched this was by far the best. Of no coincidence, it was also the most (seemingly) plausible... EXCEPT for the sheer idiocy of the characters involved and the choices being made in such high risk circumstances.
I recognize that a movie needs surprises and danger to raise tension and create entertaining drama, but could the writers not be creative enough to create that drama in spite of them being cautious, weighing risks, and not doing practices with so very little thought to consequence?! Who goes out of a ship with a tether to another man, BUT NOT TO THE SHIP!? At least had they had some sort of propulsion system, that might have made sense, but just going out there, and if you slip, well , sucks to be you?! Doubtful.
I could go on and on... In any case, we won't find life on Europa just because there's water even if there's heat. Life takes more than that even in a make-believe evolutionary system. And certainly nothing as sophisticated as what they encountered.
.. Nevertheless, this movie showed us why Blair Witch type films are earldom enjoyable... not enough cameras. This was actually able to tell a story and tell it interestingly due to the many angles. Well done.
