Review of Eternity and a Day (1998) by Kenneth Y — 09 Jan 2010
Very good Palme D'Or winner from Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos about a dying poet who reflects on his life while at the same time befriending a young Albanian orphan. There are some beautiful moments in this film, including a very haunting moment at the Albanian border, and the final shot is very impressive.
As far as the story goes, it's sort of a Greek Wild Strawberries about a man looking back at his life and preparing for death. It's cool the way the film incorporates past, present, and sometimes the future (and sometimes all in one shot).
I'm glad I finally saw this one.
