Review of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) by Alex T — 12 Dec 2012
A quirky love story where Jim Carry receives a procedure to erase the memory of his ex girlfriend, Kate Winslet (who got the procedure done before him). Brilliantly done, one of Carrey's best performances, and the direction is amazing.
Shot on a small budget, it's ingenious special effects are all done on a small scale. The love story between the two is real, fun, sad, and angry at times. As the procedure is happening, Carrey doesn't want to forget her and fights against his own mind to save the memories from the graveyard.
Like Memento, it is told in a backwards way and does it equally as good. See it, you may be surprised by it's mainstream idea, shot on an Indie film budget, and delivers the punches just as it intended.
One of my favorite love stories, because it's quirky, real, and bittersweet at the end.
