Review of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) by Michael H — 22 Feb 2016

I usually don't enjoy romantic movies. With that being said... This movie is an exception. I love everything about the film. The way it was shot and how the two main characters interact.

This isn't the typical romance where two people fall in love, but some obstacle makes their love impossible. Throw in an exploitive disaster that is only there to jerk tears turn a forgettable romance... into a tragedy... And you have a Nicolas Sparks film (I shamelessly ripped my words of from somewhere... Bonus points if you know where! Plus it nicely sums up my anti Nicolas Sparks film stance =p).

Instead I'm treated with a smart, witty, and charming film about an somewhat dysfunctional couple that have their memories of each other...erased... as their relationship falls apart. The film doesn't pretend they are meant for each other, but I certainly enjoy the couple attempting to make this relationship work.

This film competes quite closely with another romantic film that I enjoy... (500) Days of Summer... Quite frankly... I have a difficult time choosing which film I like more. Both are good in their own right.
