Review of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) by Soraya B — 20 Jan 2013
Poignant, painful, heart-breaking, quirky and thought-provoking - I've watched this film more times than Clementine (Kate Winslet) changes her hair color! I've attached so many memories to this film; that's it's mechanism and appeal.
Whenever a film binds its' audience with a common thread of experience, it's bound to resound favorably. These days, a lot of people are finding substitutes for an increasing lack of empathy in the world through films, music, etc.
; that's why we get so excited when we feel that a character or plot shares common ground with stories from our own lives. The personalization of a film makes the cinematic experience somewhat like cleansing over open pores; a lot of it will wash off, but there is always an emotional residue which clogs and lingers.
Beautiful.
