Review of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) by Garrett S — 17 Dec 2015
E.T. is a story of childhood wonder and adventure that is amusing and touching. It's about an unlikely friendship and what it feels like to be a kid, to go on grand expeditions and have adults dismiss your stories.
Some of my favorite scenes were at night, because of the director's creative use of lighting and the enchanting atmosphere the dark forests and moonlight create. The children acting in this film are frankly incredible, especially Drew Barrymore.
I couldn't believe the level of authenticity and humor the little girl achieved. The film was a little more adult than I'd expect from a kid's movie, with multple curses and the alien chugging a few beers.
The scenes between the boy, Elliot, and E.T. are fantastic, though. The story is simple and uncluttered, the special effects are amazing. The bike rides through the air and ET's chest lighting up were among my favorite, along with the beautiful trips through the forest.
Overall, a very creative and enchanting family movie.
