A beautiful masterpiece that reminds us that summer blockbusters weren't always big, bustling action epics. This is when family entertainment was held to the same standard as all other entertainment.
People went into a family movie like "E.T." and weren't disappointed, because the studio knew they had a great film in the hands of a great filmmaker. They didn't crank out five of the same kind of movie a summer and then greenlight sequels before they're even sure if fans want one or not.
