Review of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) by Bivo M — 07 Dec 2015
This is a beautiful family and sci-fi classic. It makes me so sentimental watching ET quietly explore the odd artifacts of humanity like the cans of coke, pez containers, Reeces Pieces, Reynold's Wrap, TV, stuffed animals, speak and spells, phones, and all the bad come-backs that populated children's lives in the 1980s. There's always a mess to clean up. One of my favorite scenes is when the mom comes home and doesn't notice ET scuttling around while she's frantically putting away groceries and picking up garbage around the house. It doesn't matter that we don't know whether or not ET is a child, he is experiencing a new world with childlike wonder, fear, and innocence. It is the children who listen and understand what is best for ET, not the adults.
Tagline: Stay.
