Review of Escape to Witch Mountain (1995) by Gg J — 07 Jun 2009
?Escape to Witch Mountain? is one of those films I somewhat remember seeing as a child on TV?s Sunday night ?Wonderful World of Disney.? (I was one in 1975, the film?s release.).
Because I remember liking it, and I still do. The film is nothing short of brilliant, really. It?s a children?s film about two maybe alien children in the modern (1970s) world of orphanages, old grumpy men in campers and villainous rich guys out to get you. It?s a wonderful innocent lark written, photographed and plotted with the absolute exact innocence and smallness of a child. Dig the jail scene, every shot is from a child?s angle.
It?s dated, yes, and a bit too innocent, but it?s that rare film made for children (real and far too old) that seems made by children.
