Review of Escape Room (2019) by Tryasummersault — 04 Apr 2019
5.6/10 The escape room settings and concepts are creatively executed, but the overall story is ridiculous and tries to be so original though it’s not at all because it rips off Saw and Cabin in the Woods so much.
The cast is mostly grating and extremely annoying especially the guy that plays Jason. At least have a couple actors that don’t seem like complete rookies so we can attempt to care about them although the awful script could be to blame for that aspect.
The visuals are decently solid throughout and there are a few clever settings and devices. The sequel set up is so blatantly desperate at the end though I will definitely not be watching it. Overall it’s just a rehash of the 2 films I mentioned set in escape rooms with utterly ridiculous plotting/scripting, with some moments of intrigue spliced throughout.
A definite horror cash grab through and through.
