Review of Escape Plan (2013) by Roxanne R — 06 Feb 2014
Aging stars on an action film does not make a good combination and Stallone shows his age on this one more than Arnold. Anyways, Stallone plays Ray Breslin, a structural engineer, author and an authority on how to escape from any prison every built.
Breslin spends his life getting into prisons to study their designs and the guards' habits to find and exploit their weaknesses, thus enabling him to escape without a hitch. His goal is to ensure that any criminal sent to prison remains in prison.
One day him and his business partner are offered a hard to refuse deal: a multimillion dollar deal by CIA agent Jessica Miller to test a top-secret prison and see if it is escape-proof. Unfortunately the location of this prison is not disclosed as part of the deal, regardless he takes the offer.
The film is interesting, its more drama than action and while in this prison, Breslin meets fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (A. Schwarzenegger), and they both stage a fight for Breslin to study the solitary confinement cell, which uses high-powered halogen lights to disorient and dehydrate prisoners.
The last 20 minutes are action packed. This film concentrates more on dialogue between Breslin and Rottmayer, you will not see much inmate interaction and drama, its more about how to escape from prison.
Overall it was average and I do recommend renting it.
