Review of Escape from Tomorrow (2013) by Joey R — 09 Jun 2014
Escape From Tomorrow is beautiful in a lot of ways. As someone who has never been to D[bleep]y Land, the surrealist trek through the amusement park experience was actually rather exhilarating.
It even builds up an intriguing plot through the first hour or so. Unfortunately, a plot is only so interesting as it pulls together and delivers and ending, and in this case Escape From Tomorrow totally punts the last half hour, preferring obscurification to illumination. And as concepts are introduced and dropped with increasing fervor, it becomes increasingly clear that this is a movie that makes sense to exactly one person: the director.
As the ending fades to black, the missed opportunities to deliver a coherent, interesting plot pile up like bodies. Such that all we're left with is an interesting visual experiment.
