Review of Escape from Tomorrow (2013) by Mary J — 30 Aug 2014
I genuinely almost don't know what to rate this one... Shot guerrilla style at Disney World, there is some amazing film work and some creepy effects successfully done here. It's an interesting premise and the build up and gradual insanity that is clearly a metaphor for a midlife crisis is really well done. The ending doesn't make any sense at all in the context of the lead up though and there are a lot of loose ends. I get it's that kind of movie that leaves questions, but in order for that to be truly successful, there has to be a way to reflect on the questions and get something other than static in response.
Somebody else who reviewed this said it would have probably been astounding as a short film compared to a feature length and I'm inclined to think they're right.
