Review of Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971) by Jesse P — 24 Nov 2011
Rating: B, First, I don't know how you can make a sequel to a movie that ends like Beneath The Planet of the Apes does. It also seems a little contrived that the apes would have been able to fix the ship that was lost in water, pretty much destroyed, and the apes already mentioned they knew nothing of flight and the time they had to do it was so little my suspension of disbelief is really being yanked on.
However, I think the film is smarter than any of the sequels and it's really clever what they do with the plot. Switching it so the apes come to the past not only changes the perspective and heros, but also clearly means the studio could do much more with their budget since they didn't have to spend it on make-up for all the apes.
I also think this film streches outmore and doesn't feel enclosed. Overall a good sequel.
