Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Nickolas A — 01 Feb 2009
For the time in which this was made, it might have been a groundbreaking film, but by today's standards it's almost laughable. Judging by the plot of the film you would expect this movie to be action packed, right? Wrong.
There is barely any action and the action that is present is very mediocre even by the standards of the 80's (when this film was made) especially when thinking of movies like the Terminator. The acting is almost terrible, even by a grindhouse movie standard, and the special effects are comical.
This is definetly one of those movies that i'm not opposed to seeing a remake of. In the right hands, with today's technology, this could become a great movie, but instead it's a mediocre film with a lot more potential then it takes the time to make use of.
The only reason to see this film is, it's cult status.
