Review of Escape from New York (1981) by James O — 11 Jul 2010
The first time I saw this movie, I watched it at about 6 in the morning while running on the treadmill... and hated it. I chalk that up to the movie being a bit more slow paced than what some people may be expecting from an action movie, but when watched in a more sedate environment, Escape from New York is a strange blend of retro-futuristic (at this point at least), urban, and Western themes.
The atmosphere is awesome, the protagonist is undoubtedly deserving of more than one meager sequel, and the movie as a whole is all around enjoyable to watch.
