Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Ram M — 18 Dec 2010
An odd but thrilling movie!
MPAA Rating: N/A.
Runtime: 99 minutes.
Tagline:
The world's greatest leader is a hostage in the most dangerous place on Earth. Now only the deadliest man alive can save him.
Plot:
In the future, New York City is a maximum security prison with no way out once the prisoner is in. When the president of the United States is forced to land down and taken prisoner, there is only one man who can help him -- Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell). Snake himself is on his way to prison but is given a deal, bring the president out alive and he will be pardoned...
Plus:
A fast paced script with plenty of one-liners and a very creative vision of the future.
Minus:
The start is a little slow (till Snake makes his entry). Also, the weirdness of the movie may not be up to everybody's liking.
Overall:
If you like Sci-fi, then this is a must watch for it's cult status. Else, you can pass this. Me, personally, I loved it. Thumbs up!
MY Rating: 8/10.
