Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Brandon R — 04 May 2011
This was a nostalgia movie for me --I remember seeing it when I was likely too young. That being said, I loved it. It may be the first time I remember thinking that a person was "cool." Snake Plissken -- even the name is cool.
Unfortunately, time has not been kind (to either this movie or my memory of it.) Slowly paced, poorly shot, sad effects. I sat down to watch it tonight and couldn't make it all the way through. I checked out about the same time that Isaac Hayes showed up. Ugh. And the early 80's soundtrack -- almost more annoying than the music in Blade Runner.
I'm all for holding on to those nostalgia movies (you'll never take my Neverending Story away from me.) But this just does not hold up.
