Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Taylor A — 09 Mar 2012
The badassness of Snake was just a bit too obvious for me. His hushed dialogue, the way he lit a cigarette, it more got on my nerves. But damn it all if everything else about this movie isn't freaking awesome.
This is what 80's action is all about right here. The idea is original, wild, and instantly intriguing; the set designs are beautiful; the effects (while sometimes dated) use realism over CG in a refreshing manner; the over-the-top tone is just an absolute joy.
