Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Joel B — 08 Sep 2012
Out of John Carpenter's entire catalog of films and his collaborations with Kurt Russell, this movie has had the most impact on me personally. There is absolutely no indication of the film being a low budget exploitative picture commonly seen in Movie Houses of that day, although given the storyline and the grittiness of the movie, it certainly could have been handled that way.
The film itself proved that Russell, was definitely more than just a Disney actor, that he had the chops to be taken seriously as an action star. And it shows Carpenter's perfect execution of a post apocalyptic western.
