Review of Escape from New York (1981) by Alexander C — 07 Dec 2012
''Plissken? Plissken what are you doing?''.
''Playing with myself, I'm going in.''.
N 1997, when the US President crashes into Manhattan, now a giant max. security prison, a convicted bank robber is sent in for a rescue.
Kurt Russell: Snake Plissken.
Lee Van Cleef: Police Commissioner Bob Hauk.
Ernest Borgnine: Cabbie.
Donald Pleasence: President of the United States.
Escape is what they based my loved franchise Metal Gear Solid on, upon seeing it, Overall I liked it.
It's typical 80s cheese thats gone slightly out of date.
Kurt Russel Manages to give a gruff performance as the Hero, Snake. Carpenter has made another fun movie like Big Trouble and he makes it funny, serious and comic-book like in one fell swoop.
The music is what gives it a boost to me, I loved it. I'd rate the music 4 if I was watching with my eyes closed. Overall it's very enjoyable, despite having some odd acting in places and the little fact that for 1997 the future looks abit naff.
A cool Carpenter Russel collaboration Action flick which is above average.
