Review of Escape from L.A. (1996) by Nathan O — 27 Feb 2010
Escape from L.A. is a remake of Escape from New York the only difference is that instead of the story being set in New York it is set in LA. That's it. The plot is to 90 percent exactly the same and that's one of the reason why this isn't a worthy sequel of Escape from New York. John Carpenter should've add some new things to the story but he didn't.
Kurt Russell plays Snake Plissken again. This time he's less serious but still a bad-ass. The supporting cast is filled with talented actors (Steve Buscemi, Peter Fonda, Stacy Keach, Cliff Robertson, Pam Grier and many more) but sadly enough they don't add anything to the movie and their performances aren't noteworthy. There is also a cameo by Bruce Campbell who is always fun to see, but it's definetly too short.
The action is bigger than in Escape from New York, but not better. The special effects aren't that great, they look very fake.
Besides the many problems that this movie has, it still manages to be a lot of fun, but I can't quite recommend it.
