Review of Escape from L.A. (1996) by Brett A — 15 Jul 2011
I would give just about anything for there to exist one of those wonderful John Carpenter/Kurt Russell DVD commentaries for Escape From LA, just to try and gain some kind of understanding as to what exactly they were trying to do.
I mean it's a sequel, but it's also a remake. Either way it's a mess - rehashed plot, characters and set pieces (all inferior to the original), old hat satire and awful - AWFUL - special effects.
Kurt Russell - bless his heart - tries his hardest as the iconic Snake Plissken and does get several badass moments (the Bangkok Rules scene in particular) but when you have him surfing down Wilshire Boulevard with Peter Fonda in one of the most horrible scenes ever filmed, even the mighty KR faces a huge struggle to cling on to his dignity.
