Review of Escape from L.A. (1996) by Robert B — 02 Jan 2014
Seeing that this was set in 2013, only fitting to watch this and see how well it compares to 2013 now that the calendar has turned to 2014. It doesn't fare well. Snake is back, he is sent into LA to try and stop a criminal from unleashing an EMP bomb.
Along the way he meets characters like Steve Buscemi selling interactive maps and a transgender Pam Grier as well as a cameo by Bruce Campbell, those are the only promising things I can say about the film.
I loved Escape from New York, but this one felt too similar to the first without the originality or charm to make it fun. The villain isn't that interesting, and really brings down the film. There is an interesting game of basketball where Russell has to score 10 points by making baskets at opposite ends within 10 seconds each time.
But as a whole, this film just isn't nearly as good as the original.
