Review of Escape from Alcatraz (1979) by Stephen E — 01 Apr 2013
The most influential prison flick out there, "Escape from Alcatraz" is Don Siegel's most assured work as a director and his best collaboration with actor Clint Eastwood. The fact that it's based on true events not only makes us care about the character's fates more than we would if they were fictional, but it also heightens the tension by an enormous sum, giving way to some of the most spectacularly thrilling sequences in cinema.
Of course, there are a few parts that feel overly manipulative, but hey, that comes with the territory.
