Review of Escaflowne: The Movie (2000) by Andrew M — 02 Apr 2007
Big production values aside, this just didn't have the charm of the series. Like any movie that's forced to cater characters who have previously been fleshed out over the course of many episodes to a new audience, it had to paint them with broad strokes.
If this is an entry point into anime for you, I enthusiastically recommend that you seek out the 1998 TV Series. The DVDs have recently been value priced as "Classics of Anime". Props to TryForce for going on to do the ass-kicking Heat Guy J.
