Review of Eros (2004) by Jen A — 05 Jul 2006
Tonight I went to the Toronto International Film Festival, to see the only movie I had time for (despite the fact I purchased more tickets).
This review will have a slighty different format, as Eros is actually 3 short films by 3 different directors.
The first was The Hand by Wong Kar Wai. It had some interesting shots, but it was a little hard to follow and the actors weren't that great.
The second was Equilibrium by Steven Soderbergh. This was a segment I actually really enjoyed. I loved the use of colour (or lack thereof). Robert Downey Jr. was great, Alan Arkin was hysterical and I really liked that it was a little dream sequence. Very enjoyable.
The third was Il Filo pericoloso delle cose (I can't remember the English title and that was all I could find) by Michelangelo Antonioni. It was absolute garbage. The dialogue was unrealistic (it was occasionally saved by a funny line or two "Normally I love this place, but because you're here I find it depressing". The acting was terrible. It turned into porn halfway through. It ended with 2 girls dancing naked on a beach for no reason. No plot whatsoever. Absolute crap.
The Opinion: Maybe I'll be able to find Equilibrium somewhere where it isn't attached to the rest of this garbage.
