Review of Eros (2004) by Drew H — 24 Feb 2011
The anthology's first segment was good, the second not bad, and the third was a failure. As usual Kar Wai Wong offers longing made exquisite by restraint, while Steven Soderbergh creates a film that lacks narrative cohesion but is at least visually satisfying.
Unfortunately, Michelangelo Antonioni's short neither makes sense nor engages the eye. My apologies in breaking formality, but can anyone tell me if it's realistic for a woman in Italy to go out to eat and go sightseeing wearing a see-through shirt with her nipples showing? How common is it for an attractive woman to have sex with a stranger who randomly shows up at her door? And what was with all the naked ballerina-dancing at the beach? This kind of trash gives foreign films a bad name.
