Review of Ernest Goes to Jail (1990) by Baphomet * — 12 Aug 2007
R.I.P. Jim Varney.. knowudduhming?
I decided to revisit my childhood and watch all the Ernest movies that have come and gone on my OnDemand, sometimes under the influence of leisurely substances, sometimes without.
I have to say, that Varney's rubbery face, insanely good impressions, diverse tonal variations, costume changes and endearing stupidity certainly puts him in a league of his own.
If you look at each and every one of his movies from an actual quality standpoint, they are subpar... most of the time there are sidestories and subplots that are shallow or lead nowhere, and the endings are always short and feel tacked-on.
But luckily, the ones who truly "get" Ernest arent exactly prone to give two shits about that.
Enchanting children and stoners alike, these Ernest movies have aged gracefully, without a doubt.
