Review of Ernest Goes to Camp (1987) by Marcy D — 26 Mar 2009
My introduction to the series and one of my fondest childhood memories. However, this is probably one that should have been left to memory. The first real "Ernest" film, the formula hadn't realy been perfected yet.
Unlike the films to come, there Ernest isn't realy the purpose. Instead of being an "Ernest" movie, this is more of a "camp" like so many others from this period. Ernest just happens to be the lead.
Ernest sings a sad song, punches a guy, gets bloody and talks about his time in Vietnam. This is not the Ernest that would come to be. That said, it's still a funny movie and enjoyable throughout even if it isn't as good as I remember it being.
