Review of Erin Brockovich (2000) by Jennifer B — 23 Dec 2008
I was a little disappointed in this. I never really wanted to see it before, but I thought it would be a good motivational exercise for fighting the mold issue. But honestly, I just wasn't impressed with the limited barriers she had to fight.
There were legal limits to the chemicals that were obviously surpassed, there was agreement in the medical community that the chemical caused these illnesses, and most of the illnesses are definitively diagnoses and are easily verified objectively through testing.
AND the diseases they caused were so horrible... debilitating or deadly in many cases. Yes it does sound open and shut, once she found that golden ticket. And I know we're supposed to be rooting for Erin in the end, and that none of this likely would have come to light if not for her, but that bonus check was a little disheartening, seeing her get about the same amount as people whose lives were ruined and will have massive medical bills in the future.
Typical. Oh, and I still hate Julia Roberts. I kept forgetting that she wasn't a prostitute, as I was watching her play pretty much the same character she played in Pretty Woman.
